Water Theme at Three Muses

When I saw the theme for this week, I knew serendipity was at work. My mom sent me an envelope of journals and pictures that I discovered were the journals my dad kept while he was in the Navy. He wrote love poem after love poem to her. He also wrote about his days on board ship and how he longed to be home with her. His writing is so fine and light that I'm having a hard time reading it, but am managing. In the envelope was a small leather picture holder with their wedding photo (part of this piece), a head shot of my mom and a lock of her hair. The holder is in bad shape, too. I can only put the journals in an archival bag and hope that prevents further deterioration. So, when I found these pictures in the envelope, I decided to do a small piece to hang on the wall (going to use Red Lead's French Laundry hanger). I'd been working on it when the theme of water was announced last week at 3 Muses.

I scanned this photo of my dad and used watercolors to enhance it a bit, especially the water. Thanks for looking, I appreciate it!

Oh Lynn, what a beautiful story. Your writing is wonderful. As for your picture, it is exquisite. Your Dad cuts a jaunty figure in his white cap and you have given him the most beautiful backdrop. This will be a great addition to your family album for future generations to see.

Hurrah for serendipity! Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful story, and the photo of your Dad. How special that you have his love letters. You should make a transcript to keep with them, in case they fade more with age, so that those in years to come can enjoy them as well.
