Day After

Ok...I went back to work. Oh well...it was awfully quiet! Good, I was able to actually get my work done for a change - that's a real treat. But I was anxious to get home. It seems like I'm totally caught up on making Gothic arches. Actually, I have a commitment to make 3 for the PaperWhimsy group, and I didn't want to fall behind (which is easy to do) so I got home and hit my artroom full tilt and got one done. I am pretty happy with it to. I have switched to Golden acrylic paints...lovely! Worth the money. I might try going back and doing some painting like the old days with the Goldens.

And today is my mom's 85th birthday. She spent it with a ladyfriend. Wish I could have flown home to Chicago. She's one determined lady, I have to say! I have made copies of several old pictures of her with her mom and sisters and I'm going to start making an altered book for her. Gram did lots of sewing and baking, so I should be able to get some good themes going. Time to put on the thinking cap!

Christmas Morning with a Present

It's quiet in the house...my family is sleeping late. We opened presents on Christmas eve. Jessica was simply delighted with everything. Her heart is torn between a pink guitar and a little no-bake oven. But when she sings, look out, the expressions are something else! Moments in time to remember...

Speaking of moments, for some reason I thought about my elementary school days and one of the very special gifts the 8th grade nun gave me - Haiku poetry. I remember hearing it read, and hearing the challenge of 5 syllables of the first line, 7 making up the second and 5 for the third. That's all! It's a discipline, for sure, but one that keeps you in the moment. We had English books that had a few Haiku poems in them that enthralled me...and have kept me under their spell. I've been writing them ever since...I think I'm part of legions of people who write haiku. It's a wonderful artform and if you haven't tried it, why don't you give yourself a Christmas present?

A little more before bed

Saturday evening...having a tea party with my little Jessica! I finished two gothic arches for a swap in my Altered Designs group. The theme is Romantic.

Quiet Saturday

Everyone is out shopping and I should be doing some chores, but I thought I'd do some writing here instead! It's a gray day, but I love gray days. Christmas is almost upon us. I have the Christmas Wreath candles burning and the fragrance fills the room. Oliver, my lab mix, is very content, I can tell by his snores. So maybe I should take advantage of the empty house and free time and get some art work done! Yes...I think I will...

Finally

Finally I've set up a blog. I've read many, primarily artists, blogs and have wanted to do one of my own. Somehow I finally stumbled into doing it! So, we'll see how I get on with it. Between work, my lovely little granddaughter here on the weekends and managing an autoimmune disorder that tries to keep life very interesting, I don't have the time I wish I could have for art, but I try. I'm working feverishly on a gothic arch book for my dearest friend who lives in Chicago. I wish I could see her face when she turns to the last page of the books and sees the picture of us there from 1963...I wonder if she'll want to shoot me or hug me? LOL!! It's the first piece of art I'm posting. Oh my, those hairstyles! May they never return!
