Earthquakes and Hurricanes - Oh My!

Earlier this week, I was in my car at a stoplight, when my car started bucking...sideways.  At first I thought the old girl had developed a problem, but then I realized it wouldn't be shaking sideways!  I didn't hear the roar cause the car next to me was trying to share some downright ugly noise with the world.  I figured an earthquake hit. When I got to the vet, the ladies were all freaking out.  I have to admit, I lived in California for a few years and never felt an earthquake like this one.  Interesting factoid: did you know there are about 200 earthquakes per day anywhere in the world?  But, in the meantime, we've had 8 aftershocks...2 of which I definitely felt!

And now Hurricane Irene is bearing down on us.  We're in a tropical storm warning, but Ocean City, Maryland has evacuated!  I understand she's lashing NC and SC now.  They think the storm will hit us tomorrow evening.  Went to the store last night and most of the batteries were gone, the bread aisle had crumbs, there were a few cases of bottled water left, but milk and other supplies were in good shape...oh yes, oddly enough, cookies were in low supply!  Wegman's is a great grocery store...their employees were bringing out more foodstuffs left and right...trust me, I nearly got nailed by one of their big carts!  But my hat's off to them.

So to all my friends on the East Coast, fingers crossed, be safe and see you on the other side...I'm not ready to go to Kansas yet!

Oh! Lynn I'm thinking of you right now (10:35 pm PST) and hoping you made it through Irene okay. My prayers are with you and any others that are going through this.

I hope you made it through the natural disasters that have been happening in your area. So strange!

How have you been? I've apparently been a bad blogging friend since my Followers button doesn't work anymore.

I've got you on my front page now so I can keep up with you and your art!

Warm hugs
Jan

Wow! Mother Nature isn't treating you very kindly at the moment. And human nature is such that everyone panics and the shops are laid bare. Pity help the latecomer!!
(My niece was living in the Los Angeles area at the time of the last serious earthquakes and, as a newcomer from a fairly stable continent, she awoke to hear and see waves of water hitting her bedroom window. It took her a while to realise that the waves (from the nearby swimming pool) were being thrown in all directions by the quake.
I hope life gets back to normal for you very soon. If nothing else you will be pleased to see your favourite grocery store fully stocked!!

Great write up Lynn! It was a strange week. I just missed feeling the earthquake by minutes. On the third floor of our building, it rattled the equipment, but I had just gone to the second floor, where we didn't feel a thing. The stores here were bare just like these shelves, as Irene approached. Many people won't get power back until next week. :-(

glad it's all history now

I have never seen store shelves like that...down right spooky!

hope the aftershocks stock...we haven't felt those here in Chantilly, but sure did feel the 5.8!
