Take a Word - Joy

Here's my little girl!

I'll be heading to Oklahoma tomorrow to spend Christmas with my 3 yr old grandson, don't know how much art I'll be doing while there.  I'm staying until 1 February 2012.  So, I wish everyone here the most beautiful and merry Holiday season!  I hope all your dreams and creativity will be enriched by the blessings of the season!  Hugs to all!

Sunday Postcard Art - Christmas Fairy

What fun!!!!  I found this delightful little girl on a collage sheet from AlteredArtifacts.  I simply had to use her in some way, and what better way than as the Peppermint Christmas Fairy!  Thanks for stopping by!

BlissAngels Christmas Tin Swap

I participated in Wendy's Christmas tin swap at her blog BlissAngels.  My partner is Lynn Stevens!  I was somewhat freaked...making something for Lynn, who is such a spectacular artist, worried me!  I thought and thought, had some ideas then decided to quit being so worried and make "something"!  So, here's three shots of the tin I made for Lynn.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed that she likes it...she should be getting it any day now!

Steampunk at Three Muses

Steampunk is lots of fun to create!  I had some specialty paper and sprayed it with Tattered Angels.  Great example at Three Muses, btw!  Glad you stopped by!

Shameless!!!

My son is the greenhouse manager at Oklahoma State University.  Right now, they are preparing for their poinsettia sale.  Summer 2010 I had the pleasure of working in the greenhouse preparing the cuttings for planting...that was in August.  The small 3 leaf cuttings are in 4 inch pots.  There are rows and rows of these lovely little plants growing into the awesome flowers of red, white and pink.  And there's the Winter Rose with a ruffled leaf that's just heavenly.  Each species must be carefully planted.  You use gloves and have to reglove when you change species to prevent contamination.  I loved doing it!

So, here's my shameless plug...Barry is interviewed on local Oklahoma TV in this clip!  Have a look and listen, please!  And if you are in Oklahoma...go buy a poinsettia at OSU, you will not be sorry, I promise!

Take a Word - Blue

I'm back from my Thanksgiving with my mom and aunt in Chicago.  Long 12 hour drive each way.  No more road trips like that for me!  I'm still worn out.  So, I thought I'd recover by making a little bit of art.  My blue girl has stars in mind after seeing a concert...will she make it on the stage?  It's a great dream, and one can only hope her dreams don't turn out blue.  Thanks for looking!

Take a Word - Umbrella

Finished my umbrella piece with several layers of pieced papers, some paint splatters (which can't be seen well) and a very pretty lady with her umbrella.  Thanks for looking!  And I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving!  I'll be away for a while, so enjoy your holiday no matter where you are!

Madonna Slide Mailer

Thought I'd show you a slide mailer I made with Moonlight Journey's Madonna collage sheet.  I painted it Christmas red, rubbed on some gold and it's ready to send!  Thanks for looking!  Hope you're having a good Sunday.

Take a Word - Moonstruck

My moon is from Maggie Oliviera's Phenomenon shop.  I created an ATC, colored it with H20s.  The hard part was finding a good quote, and Carl Sandburg provided this rather sad one I felt was a perfect match.  Thanks for stopping by.

Take a Word - Sewing

Here's my little piece on the theme of Sewing.  I colored my lady with watercolor pencils.  Thanks for stopping by!

Santa

I've started on my Christmas decorations.  I bought these candle tins from RedLeadPaperworks and used the images from MoonlightJourney "Christmas Memories" and 'Winter Carnival".  Salted the tin with glitter and snowflakes and - viola - one down, many to go!!!

Three Muses - Vintage/Memories

I collaged a lot of papers together and then slapped a lot of Quinacridone / Nickel Azo Gold over them, so I didn't adhere to the "pretty" aspect of the theme, but I get carried away sometimes, what can I say?  :o)  Thanks for stopping by!

Take a Word #52 Time

After seeing Rian's most incredible art for the theme of Time, I'm not so sure about posting this.  I've been carving pumpkins and my hand is worn out!  My granddaughter chose the most complicated pattern of Dracula's castle...it was a nightmare in every sense of the word.  So, I went vintage again simply to try and relax!  I went with the theme of Family Time.  Between watching Next Iron Chef and giving my DIL feedback on essays she was writing for her class, this piece is all I could come up with.  Phew...I'm tired!  Thanks for looking!

Monster Movie Swap/BlissfulATC Swap

My ATC came today from Karen M.  Oh boy, oh boy!!!!  Well, first of all, Wendy hosts this monthly themed swap at her blog  http://blissfullatcswap.blogspot.com/  I found it while I was checking out someone's blog, so I signed up!  The October theme was Movie Monsters.  My swap partner created her ATC based on Phantom of the Opera.  It has a wonderful 3-D effect!  Phantom is one of my favorite movies...the old time with Nelson Eddy and Claude Rains, as well as the current fav with Gerard Butler.  Thank you, Karen!
My ATC is based on Frankenstein...I used some old time movie posters and made my Frankie a little 3-D, too, I hope!  So, enjoy them and have fun watching a monster movie...it's that time of year!
Thanks for stopping by!

Three Muses - Wings

Here's a little fellow from Lisa's Altered Art.  A dress...really, Mom!  And that's just what his expression seems to say, but still, he has a little pair of wings he's earned by listening to mom, and he wants to keep them, so he's got the little dress mom picked out! :o)  Thanks for looking!

3 Muses - Circles/Squares

Here's my circles and squares for Three Muses.  Thanks for looking!

TAW #51 - Childhood

What a lovely theme.  I love the vintage pictures of children, so it was easy to come up with something for this challenge.  I think, tho, it's about time for a new scanner.  Everything lately has gotten very grainy, so I guess I've got to check out some new ones.  Thanks for stopping by!

SPA - Haunted House

I just love Halloween!  Here's my haunted house...the witch has been doing some cleaning!  BTW, I've been trying to figure out how to make my pictures clickable to enlarge, but have had no luck.  Almost screwed up my whole blog as a result.  Thanks for stopping by!

TMTA - Witches

Am I late!  Well, I've been fighting the cold of the century.  But I used Moonlight Journey images for my beautiful witch ATC.  Thanks for stopping by!

Altered Halloween Tin

I worked on this tin, using Moonlight Journey images.  The tin is being sent to England to my swap partner, a swap hosted by Wendy at Bliss Angels.  Thanks for stopping by!

Three Muses - Moon

I'm a day behind...thought today was Tuesday!  Anyway, I finished my piece a little while ago.  Used a lovely Paper Whimsy background which needed little embellishment except for the woman floating down the steps, her arms outstretched under the moon.  Painted around the background, just went to town with a scumbler.  Hope you enjoy it!

Take a Word #47 Male

We're paying a little attention to the male this week.  Women and kids are often a subject for our art, and we ignore the gentlemen.  Why is that, do you suppose?  Well, back to business, I paid homage to the businessman...hard working, honest and still can appreciate flowers!  Thanks for looking!

AlphaStamps Invitations to the Witch's Ball

I'm taking part in a swap at AlphaStamps in which we make 4 ATCs plus an envelope with the theme of an Invitation to the Witch's Ball.  I chose the black envelopes and have decorated some (didn't scan) with addresses and little pics of Halloween images.  I just finished my ATCs and thought I'd post a scan of them.  Thanks for looking!

SPA - Pierrot

Saturday Postcard Art's theme this week is Pierrot.  All images come from Itkupilli.  Thanks for coming by!

I've Been Playing

I bought a $1 frame at Michael's and painted it, sanded it in spots and stamped a script stamp on the outer frame.  Using that cardboard inset, I just painted it with acrylics, used crackle, then painted it again with a lighter color.  I punched out circles, glued them down onto the inset and then attached an assortment of charms.  Simple as 1-2-3!  Thanks for looking!

Recalling 9/11

I have to take a moment from daily life, art, family...and remember 9/11/2001, a day of immense sadness and grief.  I was working at the Washington Navy Yard, my day started at 0600 and all seemed normal.  Had to cross the 14th Street bridge every day to and from Virginia into the District.  That meant passing the Pentagon, which stood strong and sturdy, an enduring symbol of America.  I was working on the secure floor at the Yard and remember hearing a lot of commotion from another office.  That's when it started, watching the TV and the shock of seeing the Twin Towers.  Then there was a shocking sound and another news alert.  By this time, our whole building was in lockdown.  People were crying and just wandering in disbelief.  But then worry set in...our families, our children, what was happening to them?  Were they safe, where were they?  Finally, the Admiral got word to start releasing us.  I took a bus to work and worried about how I'd get home.  Traffic in this area is horrible.  I-95 can  be one long parking lot.  Fortunately, one of the ladies grabbed me and said she'd secured us rides.  We figured we'd be in traffic for hours.  Seven of us loaded into one small car, but no one minded.
Got on the highway, no traffic.  Talk about eerie, seeing those empty roads.  Honestly, we were shocked, but we were quiet and afraid of what lie ahead.  We smelled the Pentagon before we saw the building, although we saw the most ugly plumes of black smoke billowing up into the air.  As we drove under an overpass, in the median stood a man waving a huge American flag very slowly.  It was as though, in that moment, time moved in slow motion, we watched him wave the Flag back and forth. It was saying "We're not going down."
The Marines were already stationed at roads into the Pentagon, armed to the teeth.  It was a grim sight which turned even worse as we came up onto I-395.  The smell was acrid, biting, the sight of the fire licking at the building made us cry, the wail of sirens added to the shock.  And there was very little traffic for nearly 23 miles home.  It was all so unbelievable.  We listened to the radio in absolute awe of what was happening.  The Twin Towers were down, it was unspeakable.  God, Allah, Yahweh, He/She must have wept.  Heroes came forward, sacrificed their lives for others and showed what America is made of.  Average, ordinary Americans stepped up and stayed strong.  The terrorists might have celebrated, but on 9/11 heroes, brave and strong, stepped into the fray and showed what real strength is all about.   9/11...a day of tears, a day of sadness, a day many angels came down and escorted  over 3,000 Americans up to ultimate victory, snatching away whatever glory the terrorists thought they would have, and a day never to be forgotten.  Lynn

Three Muses - Words

"I am a bear of very little brain and long words bother me."  So says Winnie the Pooh.  My lovely teddy bear, flowers, hearts and butterflies come from Delia Wach's Etsy shop.  Thanks for stopping by!  Hope you have fun this week!

Take a Word #45 - Butterflies

I used a picture of my granddaughter, Jessica, at the circus when she was 4 years old.  June provided such great art as an inspiration!  Thanks, June!

SPA - Jane Austen

Neato!  One of my favorite authors...I read and reread Pride and Prejudice, and the original movie with Greer Garson and Laurence Olivier is brilliant.  Phew...ok, got that out of my system!   Sandy's piece is such a great example!  I couldn't resist her collage sheets either.  I colored the images with Pebbles chalks, makes my inner child very happy!  Thanks for stopping by!

Earthquakes and Hurricanes - Oh My!

Earlier this week, I was in my car at a stoplight, when my car started bucking...sideways.  At first I thought the old girl had developed a problem, but then I realized it wouldn't be shaking sideways!  I didn't hear the roar cause the car next to me was trying to share some downright ugly noise with the world.  I figured an earthquake hit. When I got to the vet, the ladies were all freaking out.  I have to admit, I lived in California for a few years and never felt an earthquake like this one.  Interesting factoid: did you know there are about 200 earthquakes per day anywhere in the world?  But, in the meantime, we've had 8 aftershocks...2 of which I definitely felt!

And now Hurricane Irene is bearing down on us.  We're in a tropical storm warning, but Ocean City, Maryland has evacuated!  I understand she's lashing NC and SC now.  They think the storm will hit us tomorrow evening.  Went to the store last night and most of the batteries were gone, the bread aisle had crumbs, there were a few cases of bottled water left, but milk and other supplies were in good shape...oh yes, oddly enough, cookies were in low supply!  Wegman's is a great grocery store...their employees were bringing out more foodstuffs left and right...trust me, I nearly got nailed by one of their big carts!  But my hat's off to them.

So to all my friends on the East Coast, fingers crossed, be safe and see you on the other side...I'm not ready to go to Kansas yet!

Three Muses - Hats

Almost missed this one, then I realized I had already created a piece some time ago.  The picture is of my mom sometime in the 1940s.  I used a block sized ATC, some dresden, lace and a jewel or two wrapped in the lace and of course a bit of glitter at the edges and here's my mom in a little blue velvet hat.

Take a Word #42 Celestial

My celestial piece features a sweet little angel.  I think Deann has done a simply wonderful piece to start us off!  Thanks for stopping by.

Take a Word #41 Faces

Decided to make an ATC using the hammered technique (good when one has a bit of stress!).  I hammered the paper, painted it, then hammered a little more gently.  I love this face...I think I got a while back from Naval Jelly Studios, but don't hold me to that.  June's examples are so extraordinarily beautiful!  Hard act to follow!  Thanks, June!

Theme Thursday - Paris

I've been working on a little book just because...so I figured I'd show one of the pages I've made.  Timing is perfect.

Three Muses - Angelic

Boy, am I late!  But I finally put together my piece last night after fooling around with it for way too long.  If anyone sees it, thanks for stopping by! :o)

Take a Word #40 Song

Here's my take on the theme "Song".  I couldn't decide on a particular song, so I thought I'd focus on choirs, since their songs can be so stirring.  Thanks for stopping by!

SPA - Things with Wings

I haven't made a postcard for a while, so when I saw the theme (and since my granddaughter is out in the swimming pool with the "big" kids), I thought I'd see what I could come up with.  Finally had a chance to use my Octopede stamp, lots of smooshed ink, sloppy embossing (couldn't have done it better if I tried) and here's my little mail girl...or something! :o)

Sunday, July 24, 2011

Take a Word #39 Sepia

Yvonne has created such a beautiful piece of art for this challenge.  My background is painted, although the color is not scanning as a real sepia, maybe it's time to invest in a better scanner.  But, a little stamping and embossing and using some images from Rebelsher's collage sheets, I created my contribution this week.  Still super hot here and with the humidity, phew!  Thank goodness for air conditioning...I think its inventor should be put up for sainthood! :o)

Three Muses - Oriental

Such a beautiful theme!  I did a 3x5 in answer to this challenge.  Thanks for stopping by!  Keep cool!

Sunday, July 3, 2011

Take a Word #36 Stars and Stripes

Here's my offering for our theme this week.  I used a darling Paper Whimsy image and a few little bits, smooshed some red and blue ink onto the burlap and finished it off with a background of music and specialty paper for the stripes.  This piece also qualifies for Rainbow Lady's Challenge Blog (Cynthia) this week!   Mighty glad you stopped by and I hope you like this piece!

Pendant

I'm not much for making jewelry, I'm not even sure if this pendant qualifies, but I figured I'd try.  I used an image from Moonlight Journey's Memories collage sheet...trimmed out the little girl and gave it a go!  Thanks for looking, opinions appreciated!

Theme Thursday - Make an ATC

Here's an ATC I did for a swap at Altered Designs.  I wish I could remember from where I got my image of that little girl, but she's a bit serious, isn't she?  Thanks for taking a look!

Wednesday Stamper - Use At Least One Rubber Stamp

Finally, I'm able to share a piece I made using a tree rubber stamp.  I inked and smooshed my background and used Stickles on the tree.  Thanks for stopping by!

2x2 Moon Canvas

I'm still designing for Moonlight Journey and used their Butterfly Pendant sheet to create, not jewelry, but a mini canvas.  I painted it and then used a little piece of ephemera, some ribbon and glitter (of course!)  The original idea for the mini canvas comes from a piece in Mar-Apr Somerset Studio and a current swap going on in one of my art groups.  But this piece is not for the swap.  I saw the moon and butterflies and thought it was absolutely perfect for the mini canvas.   Hope you like it!

Three Muses - Paris

I made this skinny for a group swap, hope you like it!

Take a Word - #33 Insects

Have managed to be late again...well, my excuse is I had a little hospital dalliance so my knee would bend.  In other words, the doctor cranked the heck out of it (while I was blissfully sedated) and now I can make a full rotation on the bike!  Yippeeee!  If I thought I wouldn't screw up the knee, I do think I'd do the happy dance!  Well enough of that!  Insects, eh?  I immediately thought of our stink bug invasion and shivered...little monsters have no predators here, they aren't cute like the little fellow on Miss Spider's Sunny Patch, they are noisy, clever little beasts that hide in any little crack or crevice.  So...if it's not a butterfly, I don't want to talk about it.  So guess what I made?  Right!  A butterfly!  I painted and spattered, did some faux encaustic, glued, cut and something else I can't remember right now...but here's my insect!

Sunday, June 5, 2011

Take a Word #32 - Stars

Interesting challenge!  There's so many ways to showcase star(s).  I found an image of a little girl who is smiling to beat the band.  I imagine any parent would see her as their little star!  Thanks for stopping by!

Wednesday, June 1, 2011

Three Muses - Word

I've had some serious issues with Blogger, but it seems like everything is back on track (fingers crossed).  For this challenge I used a wooden tag, a Paper Whimsy lovely girl and a few other bits of ephemera.  Thanks for looking!

Take a Word - Wings

Haven't checked out the artwork yet, but this is a fun theme!

TMTA - Little Girls

Think Monday Think ATC - I used a clear stamp of this little girl and colored her with copic markers.  Thanks for looking!

Theme Thursday - Numbers

I made an ATC for this swap.  I haven't participated for a few weeks, trying to catch up with things!

Take a Word - Oriental

I'm late with this one.  My PT keeps getting in the way!  I used Inkadinkado clear stamps and a beautiful image from Picture Palace.  Thanks for stopping by!

Tuesday, May 10, 2011

Bannerman Boys

I was reading an article in the current Somerset Studios and thought I'd try creating something similar with a black background and ephemera.  The ephemera comes from CollageVisions.  The main image I have had for a bit, can't recall where it's from.  I stamped on tracing paper with a script stamp using sepia ink and attached it with Golden's fluid medium.  Tracing paper acts just like vellum and rolls and crinkles.  I tried a second piece using the glue stick and had better luck with it.  So, here's the end result...The Bannerman Boys.

Take a Word - Chocolate

I love the challenges at Take a Word!  And I am absolutely tickled pink to be the guest artist this week with my 4x4 about chocolate.  Now, who doesn't love chocolate, either milk or dark?  So, I can't wait to see the wonderful art that will be created.  And by the way, I'm sure you know that chocolate is perfectly acceptable to eat...after all, it is a vegetable!  And Happy Mother's Day to you, too, I hope you got a little bit of chocolate today!

Sunday, May 1, 2011

Take a Word - Exposed

Talk about a great challenge..."exposed".  Where do you go with that?  You go with your muse.  I googled an image of the moon.  I had this great image of a young woman from Picture Palace.  So, I stamped and embossed music notes, writing and a scroll stamp.  I sprayed the water with Tattered Angels and added a little patina stickles. "Her dreams were exposed by the light of the moon".  Hope you like this one!

Thursday, April 28, 2011

Theme Thursday - Vintage

Hi! I used a chipboard frame from Retro Art Cafe and images, as well.

Sunday, April 24, 2011

Take a Word - Memories

Here's a skinny a made for this challenge...I thought she'd make a beautiful grandmother...one of my favorite memories of my gram is this wonderful button box she kept in a drawer in her old Singer sewing machine.  There were all sizes and colors of buttons, and quite a lot of renegade threads.  I loved to watch her sew and embroider her linens.  I still have a few dresser scarves she made, they're my treasures!  Thanks for stopping by!

SPA = Easter

It's Easter!  The dogwoods, azalea, tulips and crocus are very busy blooming around here.  The trees are unfurling their green leaves and we're mowing the grass at least twice a week and in a planting frenzy!  So, here's to a glorious Easter and a lovely spring!  Hope you like my card.

Thursday, April 21, 2011

Theme Thursday - Girls

This week's theme is Girls...my girls come from MoonlightJourney collage images, it's available on their "Memories" collage sheet.  Thanks for looking!

Tuesday, April 19, 2011

Three Muses - Mail Art

My envie background was done with chalks (which are very pale in the scan).  I used Lavinia's stamps and colored them with chalks.  Thanks for stopping by!

Saturday, April 16, 2011

SPA - Song Title

For this challenge, I chose the song "My Foolish Heart" published in 1949 by Victor Young and Ned Washington.  It was an Oscar Nominee for Best Song of the Year, recorded by the greats from Frank Sinatra to Johnny Mathis.

"The night is like a lovely tune, beware, My Foolish Heart!"

I used Darlene McElroy's faux encaustic technique from her book "Surface Technique Treatments".

Thursday, April 14, 2011

AlphaStamps Garden Fairy Gate Book

This is such a wonderful swap...it caught my imagination right away from the gate chipboard book to the images.  We create four pages and they'll be swapped out.  I finished mine and thought I'd share them here.

Tuesday, April 12, 2011

Three Muses - Key

I made a tag with a Moonlight Journey image and some Tim Holtz goodies.  Sprayed with Tattered Angels and hope to get this done on time!

Tuesday, April 5, 2011

TMTA Insects

So I'm late...but for this ATC I used tissue paper, mists, inks and clear stamps. I have to type fast, can't sit in this low chair yet! LOL!!

Sunday, April 3, 2011

SPA - Mother

I'm back from surgery with a shiny (well, I hope!) new knee.  Have to get back into the swing of things.  Here's my card.

Sunday, March 27, 2011

Take a Word #22 Bloom

I schmeered different inks (from the scan, some heavier than others apparently) around the border of my card.  I can't remember who made the stamp of the girl pulling her wagon of blooms, but she was irresistable.  This morning I woke to some snow on my tulips that are now pushing their way up above!  Thanks!

Wednesday, March 23, 2011

Gothic Arches - Spring

I haven't played here for a long while.  The spring arches are beautiful.  I couldn't resist even tho I should be doing things like sorting and cleaning to get ready for surgery.  Pfui...I'd rather play here!

Sunday, March 20, 2011

Take A Word #21 Architecture

I may have gone a little further out of the box on this week's challenge of Architecture.  I used laser cut wood (Red Lead Paperworks) that I painted (a little Tim Holtz copper crackle on the birdcage), some skeleton leaves and my bird flying free from the cage.  It's a unique and interesting challenge!

Thursday, March 17, 2011

Theme Thursday - Black and White

My tag features a Clear Stamp tulip and a background vintage dot stamp.  Thanks for looking!

Wednesday, March 16, 2011

Three Muses - Fish

I made an ATC for this theme.  This may be one of the last challenges I participate in for a while...my knees have been bad for a long time and the doc warned me that one more "misstep" and it's knee replacement time for me.  Well, a week after I came home from my 20 January surgery, I did that "misstep" and totally blew out my knee.  It's full of arthritis and bone on bone, so when I consulted a new orthopedic surgeon, you know what he said.  Sooner rather than later!  So, two months almost to the day, I'm going to be getting a new knee.  And to make things worse, because I have a rare muscle disease, too, I may have to go to inpatient rehab for a while.  So, I'm trying to get a million things done at the same time, and you know how much that accomplishes...very little!!!  Guess I'm still wrapping my head around recovering from one surgery and going in for another.  I bet my insurance company hates me!

Take a Word #20 Green

I cannot wait until Deann shows us her example...Deann's work is absolutely amazing! Visit her blog here: http://thewhimseyasylum.blogspot.com/

My piece for the challenge is a tag I made for a Yahoo group I'm in. We're doing a holiday tag book and I've sent this tag off to my partner. Hope she's going to like it! All the images are from Lisa's Altered Art. Hope you'll like it, too...in the meantime, may you find your special pot of gold!

Theme Thursday - Hat

Made my hat with the guidance of my granddaughter! Thanks for stopping by!

Wednesday, March 2, 2011

Three Muses - Ancestors

My ancestors aren't so far removed - they're my dad and uncle. My dad is on your left hand side, the boy with all the hair (yes, my hair looked like that when I was a kid, much to my chagrin!) My dad was a twin, but his twin Florian, died before his first birthday. My grandparents owned a tavern in Chicago. My gram cooked there...she was an awesome cook. My gramps was the bartender owner, so the boys were on their own a lot, although they lived upstairs. I gently colored a copy of the photo with watercolors and present it as my answer to the challenge.

Tuesday, March 1, 2011

Take a Word - Exotic

Here's my card - I stamped swirls in black and purple inks on the shiny copper background which doesn't show in the scan. Thanks for stopping by.

Tuesday, February 22, 2011

Take a Word - Door

Took me a while to get this done, in between sneezes and Kleenex "breaks". I made my ATC by painting it black, then swiping blue and green acrylics across it. All the stamps are from Lavinia. Thanks for looking!

Saturday, February 19, 2011

SPA - Faces

Fascinating challenge! I fell in love with this old fella's face. Hope you enjoy my card! Thanks!

Thursday, February 17, 2011

Theme Thursday - Crazy

This was a lot of fun! Thanks for a great theme!

Three Muses - Hot, Hot, Hot!

Our Marie lives down under in a blast furnace from what I understand! Wow, I feel for her! So our challenge is to create HOT! Why, Marie, I'd rather throw snowballs your way! Ok, I did an ATC, cutting flames free hand, using chalks and glitzy pens to hopefully give the feel of the heat. And my bathing beauty has figured out she's not at any beach she recognizes! Enjoy!

Take a Word - Romance

I seem to be falling further behind. Family and appointments have kept me on the go. I had an idea to use the romantic "how do I love you(thee), let me count the ways" and worked on it for a bit yesterday when I got home, but I was really tired, so I finally finished it today. I hope everyone had a lovely Valentine's Day!

SPA - Heart

I did a freehand drawing of a heart, the background is tattered angels delphinium and I painted the heart with acrylics and glaze with bits and pieces. Thanks for looking!

Happy Valentine's Day

Here's a small heart shaped box I made with a collage sheet image from My Love Tags by Moonlight Journey. I painted the box an acrylic gold, make a small pad from paper towel to puff up the image and glittered around it. The last thing was the seed pearl trim around the outside of the cover. Thanks for stopping by!

Take a Word - Blackbird

Late again! My blackbird is on my blog!

SPA - Steampunk

I used Lynne Perella's "Temptress" stamp and Paper Artsy stamps of gears and rulers on watercolor paper that I smooshed several colors of ink (smooshing is such fun!) Did some embossing although it's always hard to tell on scans. Thanks for stopping by...hope your Sunday is awesome!

Theme Thursday - Family

I'm late...I was having fun yesterday getting 20 staples pulled from my abdomen. It wasn't that bad actually, I was grateful. Funny the things we can be weenies about...well, me at least! :o) So, I got busy as soon as I could playing catch up and here's my answer to the Family challenge. Thanks for stopping by!

WS - Leaves and Buds

I did a 4x4 for this challenge. Used acrylics, inks and a new stamp with some interesting features to it...geese in flight, for one. Thanks for looking!

Take a Word - Vintage

Sorry I'm late with mine...I used my mom and dad's wedding photo. They married as he was preparing to deploy to Italy on board ship during World War II. I wanted to use some of his poetry he wrote to her while on board ship, but it is so very faded, I didn't want to expose it as it's written in pencil, too. I can barely read it as it is, and not sure how to preserve what's left!

Theme Thursday Red/Black

I created my tag with red inks from Ranger and used a "Stamp in Hand" I purchased a very long time ago!

Three Muses #87 Fashion

I couldn't make up my mind how to answer this challenge, there were so many ways to go and this wasn't the one I originally intended! But, things work out just how they should sometimes, and I like my two ladies in their stunning hats. I'm sure, in their day, they were the cat's pyjamas.

Take a Word - Botanical

Finally decided to work on trying to journal. I threw acrylics, glazes and other goodies at it until the page curled! :o) The print is sort of small, but I wrote "The flowers taught her that her dreams were always possible." Hopefully, I'll get better as time progresses.

TMTA - Steampunk

I'm back...had my surgery after two false starts. Gonna start slow, but what better place to start than TMTA? My ATC uses Paper Artsy stamps and Moonlight Journey images.

On a personal note, thanks for putting up with all my postings about my surgery. It's over and now the recovery process can begin. It's going to take a little longer than anticipated, but hopefully there won't be any major bumps in the road. I'm grateful to have retired, but I really have had an "interesting" time of it with my health issues. I should write a book...nah, too boring! Anyway, hopefully a few still remember me and will drop by! Thanks much!

Third Time is the Charm

I've heard that saying and hope it's true! Today I am scheduled for surgery at 1:30! I think I'm beyond nervous after preparing twice for it and having it canceled. But a few good wishes and prayers for a successful outcome and a quick recovery sure would be appreciated!! So, au revoir for now!

Surgery Cancelled!!!!

Again!!! But this time, Mother Nature interfered. My world is a sheet of ice. The main roads are fairly clear, but the side roads are like glass...they're frightening. And the sidewalks...wow! My son and DIL were with me, we made it onto the main road and were half way to the hospital when the surgical nurse called me to tell me the surgeon was unable to leave his home...apparently he lives on a hill that's now like an luge run. So, my surgery has been cancelled again (do you wonder if maybe the Universe is trying to tell me something?) and I have to call in later today and reschedule.

So much for my whine today!

Steampunk Piece

I made this piece with an image of a cute little steampunk girl from Inka at AlteredArtifacts. I painted the background with watercolors, used a swirl stamp with T.H. Vintage Photo ink, Ranger gold and even a try with a little pink. Some other bits and pieces from various collage sheets and there she is!

Take a Word #12 Butterflies and Surgery

What a lovely theme. Lots of coloring with ink (my fingers bear it out!)

I'll probably be gone for a bit. The cancelled surgery became a medical necessity, and will be happening Tuesday, the 18th. Hopefully, I won't be in the hospital too long. I had a similar surgery 12 years ago and was in for 5 days and it took 5 weeks to recover. This time insurance gives you one day at a time per the doctor's recommendations, so we shall see!! Please say a prayer for me...right now I'm not too nervous, just anxious to get it done and start to heal! Thanks so much!

Three Muses #85 Nature's Creatures

I was inspired by my neighbor's dogs...two little fellows I've dubbed "The Nutsy Brothers". Chihuahuas are, well, talkative. I love to see my 107 lb lab walk the fence with them on the other side carrying on like a couple of goofballs...they shake and shiver so hard, I fear for them! And my Oliver is just as calm and laid back as they come. But, I swear, I see a smile on his face every time. I rather think he enjoys being the cause of their frantic antics!

Take a Word #11 Beauty

I used two specialty papers, sprinkled with some glitter and stamped with sheet music in gold, but it doesn't show up. I'm sorry I can't recall from who I acquired the image, but I did color her (sparingly, I hope) with watercolor pencils. The heart that frames her comes from Paper Whimsy. Thanks for stopping by!

Take a Word - Zetti

I'm glad there's so many definitions of zetti...I decided mine would do a little juggling.

Think Monday Think ATC and Update!

Here's my ATC for the music theme. My little choralmaster comes from Altered Artifacts.

And now an update on me...I reported in my last post that I was having surgery...well, 17 hours before my surgery, the cardiologist refused to grant clearance, so my surgery was cancelled last Thursday night. And because it was the end of 2010, and a new calendar year was starting for insurance purposes, I have to start all over again, plus meet new criteria for surgery. I have spent so much money in tests required for the surgery (plus a filter placed that went through my neck which prevents blood clots coming up from my legs that cost over $800 and has to come out within 30 days and I have to pay again! Sorry, I guess I'm angry). But tomorrow I'll find out what the cardiologist wants to do with me! It's been really hard to create art, I've been in so much turmoil over this. What a weenie, eh?
